Ciana Taylor

The Chelsea Arts Club Trust Stan Smith Award for an Artist Under 35, worth £1,000 was awarded to Ciana Taylor for Sex Education for Girls, a moving image work replicating an Irish sex education film from the ‘80s, in combination with distorted realities, forming an interrogation into the artist’s personal story.

Ciana says: ‘Specialising in moving image but embracing a multi-media practice, I am driven by an unwavering effort to explore the depths of my inner and outer worlds. Through daily journaling, research, rigorous self-analysis, and a keen focus on dreams and symbols, I use patterns as a guide in my research and creative expression, drawing inspiration from ancient myths, folklore, and my own life narratives. In this intuitive approach to working I’ve found that seemingly random synchronicities often unveil ancient archetypal meanings upon deeper exploration. I like to think of my work as a gateway to the unconscious, inviting viewers to confront aspects of their psyche on both a personal and collective level.’
