Nivashini Rajalaxmi Siva

Nivashini Rajalaxmi Siva is the 2023/24 recipient of the Chelsea Arts Club Trust Award for Textiles and Fashion, and studies Sustainable Fashion Business at Kingston University.

“A tenacious learner hailing from a city in the southern part of the Indian coastline originally called madras. I’m sure the fabric bleeding madras would be a good sustainable fashion reference, to begin with. S. Nivashini Rajalaxmi is my name and the meaning of my name is “the one who stays and one who gives more than they take”.

My conviction in the importance of sustainability in the fashion industry has deepened significantly, owing in part to my experience working alongside various ethically conscious designers and workspace. This invaluable exposure has not only reinforced my commitment but has also endowed me with the confidence to delve deeper into the realms of Sustainable and Ethical practices.

In a thirst to glean holistic growth, I have applied for MA Sustainable Fashion: Business and Practices in an effort to equip me with in-depth knowledge to strategise functionality, sustainability, quality, culture and innovation into a system which can restructure itself eternally. The urgency of change in our industry has become starkly apparent to me. The time for transformation is now, and I am enthusiastic about the role I can play in driving this essential change. I believe Sustainability is weaved in all aspects of our life and can always be rethought.”
